Incorrect Gas Provider
Hi,
At the end of April I moved from the upstairs flat in my block to the downstairs. I contacted Scottish Power who were my gas and electric providers for the upstairs flat to close my account and ask them if they provided the gas and electric for the downstairs flat. They advised me that they provided the gas for this new flat, so I set up everything with them again.
I have now found out from British Gas that they provide my gas and not Scottish Power and that I owe them money. I have checked the metre point reference and serial number and this is correct.
Obviously I am quite upset as I have been paying Scottish Power for 4 months under the illusion that they provided my gas. They have said they will refund any money owed but have I any rights to claim compensation for the distress this has caused and the fact that I have a large bill to pay British gas?

Any bill you owe to BG will be covered by the refund you get from SP, so you will not be out of pocket. How much compensation do you think your distress merits? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
You have the right to raise a complaint asking why they did this.
A gesture of goodwill should be offered.
I think they need to explain how they got this so wrong as they know they have to check who supplies the property and apply for the supply if its not them. If it was them, they just do an internal change of tenancy on their system.
It sound to me like someone created an account outside of the correct processes, a completely incorrect action but new systems like SAP do allow this flaw.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
The OP is likely to have been on an expensive tariff for months so its untrue to suggest they won't be out of pocket. At least its been summer months...Sealed Pot Challenge #239
