How long before opening an item not received case?

I paid for an item on the 14th, the seller said it was shipped on the 17th..i still haven't received it. I sent them a message chasing it and they've told me to wait until the end of the week and then contact them again. 10 days seems a long time to wait for a parcel!

2 weeks from payment or thereabouts I would ask outright for a refund and reassure seller that I would repay if item arrived afterwardsI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Should i wait until the end of the week as the seller requested?0

What was the dispatch time and postage method? Where is the item coming from (UK or another country)?
If they have asked you to wait until the end of the week that seems fair. If it was shipped on 17th, which was a Friday, then it's only 7 working days today.0 -

It was sent second class within the UK. She didnt say she was going to refund me at the end of the week, just to let her know if it hadn't arrived.0 -
I'd wait until the beginning of next week - then you have given two full weeks for receipt. If the seller is still co-operative then I would definitely not open a dispute as yet.
EDIT to take account of OP's cross-posting - she doesn't need to explicitly say she will refund - if she said that to me, I would infer from that that I would get a refund at some point. Regardless, it's still too early to take it to dispute without the seller being bolshy and refusing to accept responsibility - because they are, in this case, being reasonable."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Although second class can be quick, 7 working days (counting the day it was posted - if indeed it was - and then today) isn't too long. The bank holiday always seems to slow down some deliveries.
Are you or they (or could the mail go) near the Olympic areas? That could account for any delays too.0 -
Thanks for the advice! I'll sit tight until Friday

No parcel has arrived
the post man has been already. Unsure how to proceed 0 -
First step is to contact the seller again, let them know it's still not arrived. If they are not forthcoming, then open a case for INR4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0

I would still hang on until Monday or Tuesday, but then contact the seller again. The longer it goes on, the less likely it is to arrive."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4
