Netbook keeps freezing at 'Welcome' screen

My Samsung Netbook keeps freezing at the 'Welcome' screen and I have to let the battery run out before I can switch it on again and try again.

Sometimes it will start up properly when I do this but sometimes it just freezes again and I have to let the battery run out before trying to start it up.

I can't even figure out how to switch it off when it does this so I have to leave it until the battery is finally drained before I can do anything with it.

Please help as I am not techie at all and have no idea how to fix the problem. I am currently on my son's laptop as the netbook has frozen up again this morning and I can't get to my emails etc.

1. to turn it off when it's frozen, hold down the power button until it switches off, you don't have to let the battery run down.

2. take the battery out, disconnect the mains charger, and hold down the power button down for 40-50 seconds. Then plug mains charger back in (leave battery out) and fire up the netbook. Does it still freeze ??

Depending on how that goes, will determine next steps....

Oh I am so dense! I didn't realise I could turn the netbook off just by holding down the power button (or sliding it across as I have to with this model).

I have followed your instructions and the netbook has started up normally this time. It sometimes does after I have let the battery drain before. It has been a bit hit and miss with that. Sometimes I have waited hours for the battery to drain and have still seen the welcome screen when I have switched the netbook on again, and sometimes it has appeared to have started properly only to mess up the next time I have gone to switch the netbook on again.

try rebooting it a few times with just the mains, if it does this ok, put the battery back in (as well) and retry a few times. If it still freezes then further steps needed
