Axa Home Insurance- Queries, please help...

Hi,
Today I awoke to a leek in my bathroom, because of the bad weather, which I am going to claim for on my building insurance, which is through AXA.
AXA make you submit a brief detail of the claim on line and then they respond within 4 hours, where they will ask you details about your claim.
I have never claimed on a home insurance policy before, and would be grateful if anyone could answer the following:-
(a) I assess the damage to be in the region of £2-3k, will they come and look at my property?
(b) Will I have to get quotations from building contractors / roofers, or will they have their own approved contractors?
(c) I was in the early stages of stripping this room out anyway, should I just say that this has been stripped due to the damage caused by water ingress.
Any further help and advise would be very much appreciated.
Regards,
Gareth.

1) What is the cause of the leak?
2) Did the Met Office officially define it as a storm rather than just bad weather?
I'd suggest you want to get a better idea it will be covered before contacting your insurers and getting to the bottom of the above two will help with that
a) Most likely
b) Most have their own suppliers but others ask for 1-3 quotes from you instead
c) Do you want the whole claim declined for fraud? If you dont then be honest0 -
Hello,
Thank you for your reply.
I live in the North West and it has been very wet for the past month at least, although I doubt if it would be classed as extreme weather.
The water is coming in through the roof (at a guess) and penetrating the plastered ceiling.
My whole bathroom is in a state of disrepair although I was ripping it out anyway.
Your correct- I will be completely honest and get in touch with my insurers.

You will be covered for storm damage but not simply for bad weather or poor repair to the roof.
If you think you have a leaky roof it may be worth getting it checked before getting the insurers involved as even if they decline the claim on the grounds of it not being from a covered peril it will impact future premiums for 3-5 years0
