Admittedly I didn't see it all but to be honest, I thought it took the absolute biscuit. The wedding didn't cost £200, they had loads of its paid for! Some of the ideas were quite good but some of it seemed false economy to me......I can't believe they suggested using guests to take photos without reminding people that they could end up with nothing!

Did they say how much her dress cost? Also she had a friend do her make up, well not everyone has a friend that can do make up! Can you tell I am annoyed by it? Some of it was just plain unrealistic. I would rather they show a couple that have spent a few thousand but managed to get all the niceties at a good price by shopping around/haggling etc!

    Rant over :o:rotfl:

I didn't get to see it, but the £200 makes me laugh. If you get married in a church of England there's a set fee ( so I've been told) ours was £262 and that's just the service. YOube got banns ontop of that.
If its a registry office you've got to pay for giving notice etc.
Perhaps £200 for everything else after the service but not including lol x
Best go watch it now :)

The thing that wound me up was this was half way through their planning they did this because they'd ran out of money so they'd already spent £1000 on the venue hire for example. The buffet, they phoned all guests and asked them to bring food to the wedding! They didnt mention the price of the dress i dont think but they were suggesting oxfam and highstreet which were all still £180 odd.

I was quite shocked that they actually suggested using a Chinese website to buy the wedding dress from!

It *is* possible to do a ceremony for under £200.

Notice of marriage or civil partnership = £70 (£35 each)
    A Standard Ceremony = £45.00
Marriage or Civil Partnership Certificate = £3.50

Grand total = £118.50 (In Lincolnshire)

BUT I agree (I didn't see the show) it sounds like there were a lot of hidden costs to their wedding. Either paid for by others or gifted. That's why when I did our spreadsheet I included EVERYTHING from craft knife blades down to my tights! :)

Ha ha, I saw that and it was a joke. Like you say the majority of big ticket items had already been bought like dress, venue, rings, bridesmaid dresses etc with no mention on how much these were or tips to get these at a good price. There were a lot of things that were given as gifts such as suit hire, car, make up, food etc which as jtr said not everyone has friends/family that are able to give these and perhaps some tips on how to get these at a good price would have been welcomed as i think it was very misleading as to what was actually spent on that "£200 wedding" and the show missed an opportunity to share a lot more scrimping tips.
    Got married October 2012 :j
    Hoping to conceive 2013 :D
  • I switched on part way though when my friend text me about it.

They didn't manage the £200 challenge, they spent about £270 but had already paid for the venue, rings, dress and bridesmaids dresses.

The £270 included home made decorations, home made cake, home made booze and flowers. They borrowed a friends car, her friend did her make up (make up artist), dad's present to groom was suit/suit hire and they phoned guests and asked them to bring food. They put an iPod on for entertainment. Also I can't believe nobodies mentioned the brides spa treatments beforehand, she had a lovely facemask made of squashed banana . I think they made some buttonholes from feathers but I didn't see anyone wearing them so not sure how they looked.

I liked the pom poms, the venue looked lovely :)

Oh yes, perfectly possible to actually get married for less than £200 but that would be all you could do.

This programme seemed to suggest you could have the big fancy wedding for £200 which was just completely untrue. The £1 pom poms were a great idea and looked effective but making elderflower champagne....I live in the green county of Kent and it would take me ages to find enough Elderflower, don't recall seeing any ever...at all...even on my country walks!

I'm in Aberdeen, and the minimum it could cost us to get married would be:

Notice of marriage: £70 (35 each)
Ceremony £180 (n Town House - our ceremony will cost more as we're getting married in a hotel)
    Marriage certificate: £10

    So £260. :(

The actual minimum fee for a 'ceremony' is £202 in Kent plus booking of £55 plus giving notice of £70, the £45 applies only to registration of a marriage - whatever that means!
