Returning faulty goods paid with by credit note

I bought an item partly with a credit note, partly with cash. I now have got it home and found it faulty. I know I should get a full refund but is the shop obliged to refund the full amount in cash or will I just get another credit note back? (plus the remainder back in cash)

They are perfectly within their rights to supply a credit note for the amount that was paid via credit note.
You will only find out by asking them.0
