Should I accept or not?

I'd ring up myself and ask if this was their final offer...if it is then they are saying 'take us to court if you don't like it'...but they might well try bartering with you asking you what you think a fair amount would be??? I'd be tempted to drop the interest at this point (and you MUST accept this offer if they offer it to you,) but you could be cheeky and say the 'full amount' and see what they have to say about that..then drop to £400 if they won't budge...
If they do say it is their final offer then you'll have to decide...court action and all the money or just this money now...
    Good Luck....

So, if I mugged you of your purse/wallet containing 50 quid, and then offered 2 minutes later to give it you back, and if said "you can have 30 back now, or if you wait 5 minutes you can have the full 50 back" you're telling me that you'd take the 30?

    Come on, get real!

To the OP, this is YOUR money, you ARE entitled to it, and you WILL get the FULL amount back. It isn't a question of "HOPING" to get it all back, it's a question of waiting until you DO get the full amount back.

I'd URGE you to accept it, but only as part settlement and tell them that you will still persue them for the rest.

This should allow you the best of both worlds (i.e holiday or holding out for full amount and paying off your rent arrears).

With all due respect, but a lot of people have accepted offers of less than 78% of the original claim as it is not always just about the money but about your personal situation and how comfortable you are with the offer. The OP has said that a) he wants his son having a good holiday so the money would come in handy now (and not in months time through a court case), and b) that he is not comfortable bargaining on the phone. I just tried to get the offer into perspective for him, whereas some people just every time yell "Go for the full amount!" I generally agree that one shouldn't let banks get away with it, and I would be very happy for the OP to receive the full amount. However, he asked for advice based on his situation, which I gave. I think that's what "getting real" is really about.

Spoken with my ex who is quite good financially, and he suggests I wait it out and go for the full amount, also i am now watching someone else's thread about Halifax not paying up in the time stated after making an offer to someone.
Beate just thought I would let you know, I am female, but thank you for understanding why I saw weather to accept it or not as a dilemma.

Thats the thing, I am no good on the phone. If it was full charges without interest they were offering, would proberbly accept.

Just to reiterate what someone has already said that should they offer you the full amount of your charges you must accept this.

    Good luck.

Just done an SOA on DFW board, and it makes accepting their offer somewhat tempting, as things stand at present I will have £32 to take my son away for the weekend at the end of the month. Will sit on it another week before I decide I think.

Don't accept less than 90% (not including the interest - as prevously stated this can only be claimed when going to court). Good luck, I am sure you will get more. ;)

reading around on this forum it seems Halifax are quite flexible when you call them up - they nearly always seem to agree to pay what you want. I would defo just call them and say you wont accept there offer but would be happy to accept the full amount excluding the interest - think you'd probably get the outcome you want
