Car Tax/MOT/SORN Problem

I have a problem that I suspect isn't unique to me.

The tax on the Vikingbus runs out on 31/08/12. Due to a combination of work/forgetfulness I can't get the car for its first MOT until next Thursday 06/09/12. I'm happy not to drive the car until I take it to the MOT station.

Am I correct in that I have to SORN the car for the week before I can get it MOTed?

If the tax runs out on 31st as well, then could you tax it before it runs out, I assume that the insurance will be valid, therefore the car will be insured and taxed and road legal. As the MOT is pre arranged, you can then drive it to the MOT station on the day - and hope that it passes!

You do not need to sorn, if you are keeping your vehicle of the road and untaxed up to 14 days.

I've tried taxing it online but it gets rejected because only valid insurance is found and no MOT. The car is 3 years old on 01/09/12 so has never had an MOT.

Thanks. You're right. I re-read the back of the V11 and it makes sense now. I don't need to SORN it. Just keep it off the road apart from the drive to the pre-arranged MOT on Thursday.

Have all documents in the car and be polite, friendly & apologetic if stopped.
