    Its quite easy to actually.

At the point of actually joining things had changed to £24k and £7k with that we did agree a more of my balance was down to joint expenditure.

The biggest point was we did many transfers between us to cut interest and paid highest interest rates first. Payments where on average 2/1 (me/her).

So in total I cleared around £20.5k and and she cleared around £10.5k, so yes AT THAT POINT IN TIME she had paid £3.5k of my debt.

Anyway we then save for a deposit, she out £2k in and I put £7.5k in (due to selling quite a lot of my stuff).

OK that still doesn't add up I am still £500 short.

Lets see joint account... I put in £1100 per month and see puts in £750 and we have been here 5 months...

HOLY COW she owes me money how immoral is that!

Just to boggle your heads further there is a credit card balance in my name right now, but she is a card holder on the account and we have both spent it (house, wedding etc) how bad is that she is running up debts in my name.

I will say all the above figures are approximates as we haven't kept to the penny records, but maybe just maybe we did what was best for us as a couple and we have both benefited from it, hard to believe I know.

So please tell me which bit is morally wrong? I really would like to know.

Wrong, I believe businesses can and should pass costs on.

I just don't see BTL as a legitimate business, its more like legalised robbery.

    BTL clearly isn't legalised robbery.

Let's clarify some facts again: -

BTL did not fill the gap generated by council home sell off's under the RTB scheme.

A private property available for rent will be marketed at the local rate as a reflection of the demand for rental and the supply (quality affected) of properties.

No potential tenant is held at gunpoint (robbery reference). They have the option to sign the tenancy agreement or not.
They have the option to choose alternative properties / living options / area etc.

Arguably, to make renting options cheaper, you need MORE BTL to expand the rental opportunities for tenants.. Indeed potential tenants may feel restricted / limited due to limitation in choice (lack of BTL).

  • Just a quick update.
It seems I am to become a renter ;o)
Agreed to rent a property (I'm amazed what the landlord agreed to lease it for), going through my credit check at the moment and should move in next week.

Solicitors are finalising the land sale (subject to planning permission being approved)

Builders Contract signed to progress architect drawing amendments and planning application.

    Exciting times indeed.
