    Gents,
Has your discussion deviated from topic?
Sure I asked Am I to become a renter, but maybe the costs / reward for tenant / landlord should be discussed in a different thread.

    Quite correct, sorry.

I have allowed for Landscaping, fees, utilities etc.
The builders have quoted £192k, and I'm calculating it to be £235k (land excluded)

You got me thinking about self build again (although the idea is never too far away), but plots are so rare down here and with my wife's additional criteria it just about becomes impossible.

That is the big problem, securing a plot and then getting permission to build on it.
I'm sure more people would build if plots were more readily available.

Certainly the option I'm investigating is no foregone conclusion.

The gentleman initiated the idea of selling his plot of land, but could easily get cold feet and do a u-turn.
He's in his 80's and whilst selling the plot will give him a nice £100k boost to his retirement fund, does he want his privacy affected by building for 6 months.

I certainly will not be counting my chickens until documents are signed and sealed.

Not a troll, but I would say you are somewhat naive as to how the world works.

Good luck ISTL - unfortunately given I live in the South East I would think self build is somewhat of a pipedream!

you don't believe in a "fairer world" you're just trying to get a bite by posting increasingly ludicrous assertions. the idea that a business should only by allowed to pass its costs on to its customers and should not be allowed to generate a profit is so obviously just a pointless fishing expedition.

Wrong, I believe businesses can and should pass costs on.

I just don't see BTL as a legitimate business, its more like legalised robbery.

    Legalised. So it's ok then.
Just like convincing your other half to pay off your debts from living beyond your means during your irresponsible youth.
All legal and above board. :D

The problem is legal doesn't always equally morally correct unfortunately.

Interesting take on my life, yes I had fun and run up dents but it wasn't irresponsible as that would ahve been running up debts I had no chance of paying back.

As for my wife and I joining forces to clear debts and save thousands for us both, with that its as immoral as her only putting 68% of what I do into the joint account every month.

It really does strike me as you are jealous of how we manage our finances for the great good for us as a couple and really don't argue of pennies.

    Nice wording, Percy.

To sum this up I am now left with debts as follows:
    £23k on credit cards
    £3k left on loans
    £2k overdraft
    .......
I am after some advice on how to go forward, my debts as as above and she has £3k on a car and £1k on a credit card.
So you came to the table with 28K debt, she with 4K and then you 'joined forces' :T

Percy...please don't lecture anyone on here about morals.;)
