Advice on JSA needed.

Me and my partner both were made unemployed within a week of each other a couple weeks ago.
We have made a joint claim for JSA and visited the jobcentre last week for a meeting. Before this he's put in a claim for just himself as I was still working. He has had one payment from this claim and now it is joint.
Today we both received letters his told him he was entitled to Contributions based JSA at 71... a month until Feb 2013.
My letter said as I had not paid enough Class 1 National Insurance etc..I would not be entitled to JSA.
The letter went on to say if you would like to say that if you would like to know how we worked out you "income based jobseekers allowance" then contact us..
I took a walk down to the jobcentre to ask if this was a typo and if this is in relation to contributions based JSA and if I should still get
income based (because I was of the understanding that income based went on your savings and any other money coming in etc) and was turned away and just told to phone the number on the form.
Which I did and was on hold for 20 minutes so I decided to hang up as I was on my mobile and was getting charged for the call.
I will call back later on today when I goto my mums and have access to a landline but was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this until then.
Should I still get income based as my partner is not working. I am starting to really worry about this as I am 5 months pregnant and also have some debts so really cannot live on no money.

As I understand it.
He is entitled to CB-JSA, based on his contributions. This is not affected by other income.
You are entitled to IR-JSA, at the couples rate.
However, because there is income (his JSA), the IR-ESA will only pay out the 'couples' premium bit of it.
Make sure you're also claiming council tax benefit / housing benefit/LHA0 -
I think the rate for couples is about 110 a week or something so I should still get about 40 a week. The letter does not mention this, do I need to do anything now to claim this or should it be automatic?0

Your partner needs to add you on to his claim....
If he phones up they will send him the form
Its not a joint claim as such, but he can claim for you
And will be paid the top up for you0
