Change of event, refund?

Hi,
I booked an event that was due to happen in Manchester on Sunday 26th August 2012. I received a message on Friday informing me that the event was now rescheduled for the following Sunday for some reason. I am unable to attend this event because I will be on holiday.
I've emailed the company asking for a refund or to change to a different event in Birmingham in October. They have refused to do either quoting their terms and conditions as follows:
Surely there must be some form of customer protection that prevents a sudden change without refund?
"The Customer is entitled to a full refund if the Organiser cancels the event altogether, or the event is postponed for more than 4 weeks to which the Customer paid for.
Refunds can not be given for no attendance by the Customer for the booked event (i.e 'no show'). In addition transfers can not be made from one event to another at any given time.
It may be necessary for reasons beyond the control of the Organiser to change the date, venue, time, or number of places due to unforeseen circumstances. "
Thanks

This looks like an unfair contract term, it basically allows them to change or cancel at any point and for any reason whereas you can't cancel or change anything for any reason. You may have a fight on your hands if they insist on sticking to their terms and conditions but if it was to go as far as court I can't see how they could possibly win this one.
Whatever you do don't settle for a partial refund as a goodwill gesture, you are entitled to the full amount refunded.0
