Hi and thanks in advance.
I purchased a laptop from Argos in early April it's cost £399.00 it is decent spec etc. now I don't use the laptop much as I have my iPad which I use predominantly all the time. I switched laptop on yesterday to receive fault
Fan has broke do not switch computer on will cause damage.
So my dilemma is my laptop is now broke with allot of moorland information etc.
Am I within my right to take it back to Argos and complain. Or try get some state of repair to it. 4 months old and packed in. Really gripped within as it's my only way to contact wife.i work overseas so use for Skype mainly and documents. HELP really needed return to UK in two weeks so need to sort its just a paperweight just now.

Firstly: have you backed up your information? I don't think (although I could be wrong) retailers are responsible for lost data, as it is down to the user to back that up. If they send it away for repair, it will be repaired, but may come back with a wiped hard drive.
As for taking it back to argos, you do have a right to complain, you also have a right to repair, and you have a warranty which will be the fastest way to repair.
However, I don't see how this is your ONLY way to contact your wife, as you've said yourself, you mainly use your ipad, which can do email, skype, instant messaging, documents and whatnot, so it doesn't seem to be quite so urgent. I'd recommend you take it back to argos for a repair if you don't have anything you'd miss on your laptop. If you do, and haven't backed up, you may need to visit a pc repair specialist to recover the data before doing so.0
