hi everyone!
I'm a bit confused about this and was wondering if someone can give me some guidance?
I am still using an old desktop with Windows XP and hope soonish! to get a new one with Windows 7.
My current one has Microsoft Works Word Processor and I have lots of documents done in that which are .WPS types of file.
I'm assuming I won't get Microsoft Works on a new PC so how will I be able to open them on a new pc?
.....and thinking of the future are there any new Free? programs that I can start producing documents in so I defo won't have any problems opening them when the time comes?
Any advice appreciated - Thanks!

Theres openoffice but it doesnt support importing Microsoft Works (although you can save them as another type (RTF for example), before moving to the new machine).
Or theres libreoffice which does support MS Works

Both free.0 -
MS Works is effectively obsolete. Convert them to RTF and they'll open in any WP program.
Most new PC's will come with MS Office Starter edn (Word and Excel) pre-installed.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hello again!

Still here 2 years on.....still....trying to sort things out on my old PC's (could do with a PA! LOL!)..... is the above advice still the best formats as I know Windows 8 has come out since etc.
Also I'm doing some things on Google Drive now as I have android phone & tablet. So looking for a format that is compatible with the most things.
Should I be able to Open an RTF file on my phone on the Quick Office App as it doesn't seem to work or do I need a different APP and if so any suggestions please?
Thanks!"Things can only get better.................c/o D:Ream #The 90's

An RTF file should be openable on absolutely any word processing program.
Libre Office is the best free program to use.
W8 has no bearing on this.No free lunch, and no free laptop

The desktop program is called Writer, which is a component of the Libre Office suite.
Ty opening the file from within the program, not just double clicking it.
I was referring to PC WP software, not Android apps.No free lunch, and no free laptop
