Car insurance/registered keeper query

Hi guys

Going away for the weekend with my mum and the kids and I am recovery from a back problem, should be fine to drive but as it's a 4 hour drive I wanted my mum to be able to take over the driving if I was in too much pain. She rang her insurance company who said it's fine if she isn't the registered keeper of the car... that's the problem, she is, she gave me her old car and we haven't changed over ownership yet, her insurance is on a different car completely.

If I sent off the change of owner thinghy now would I have to wait for it to come back from DVLA? We go this Friday and obviously we wouldn't receive the confirmation in time, would she be covered or not?

I am rubbish at anything insurance wise, only been driving a couple of years.

Can you not add her to your insurance?

Normally you cant insure a car you dont own, also you cant have cover for a car with 2 different policies.

Adding her to your insurance is the only way she can be covered unless she has driving other cars extension but she will becone unstuck as its still in her name!

Dont forget she will only be covered 3rd party. So if she damages it and its her fault . Then you wont get any payout from the insurance.

Adding her to your policy will give better cover.

Thanks guys, that seems like a sensible thing to do and I'm not so sure I don't trust her to hit anything haha.
