I'm thinking of buying a Mac, and as they seem to be so much cheaper in the US, may be able to get someone to get me one from there!
However, are there any compatability issues - will it work here?!!

Istr reading that they do. The only thing that's affected is the warranty, though you can get an international waranty at the point of sale. You could ask the same question in one of the Mac dedicated forums to be sure:

HTHIt could have been worse. At least source code's not combustible, or you can bet somebody at McAfee would have lit it.0 -
Yes, as ABH says the issue is the warranty.
However import duty & delivery may well wipe out the savings0 -
make sure you use a UK PSU0

Yep, I was thinking that!
Plus, I'm going away in May and could get one at Dixons Tax Free at Gatwick, which is only about £60 more!0 -

Apple laptops have both international warranties and auto sensing power bricks so you'll have no problem there.
Desktops do not have universal power bricks nor international warranties so beware.
As the others have said - buying it is one thing avoiding customs is another.
Read a thread on an American woman (I'm guessing the wife of a US soldier) who fried her iMac after plugging it in over here:

If you qualify for edu or HE discount that's the way to go.0
