    Cancelling bids
    http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/manage_bidders_ov.html#canceling

    To cancel a bid:
Go to the Cancelling bids placed on your listing page.
    http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?CancelBidShow&guest=1
Enter the item number, the user ID of the bid you’re cancelling, and the reason you're cancelling the bid.
    Click Cancel bid.
  • I don't think you can cancel bids if there's under 12 hours to run on it. I guess if he won then you have two options: cancel the transaction by sending him a mutual cancellation form or send the next highest bidder a 'second chance offer' and hope they accept.

Message him back and say you can't do it , he should be able to cancel it from his end.

if he cancelled, which he can, he would get a mark against his account, not sure if you would too, but my guess is you would.

Tell him he can cancel if he wishes but you can't/won't.

The buyer CANNOT cancel the bid unless it is within an hour of placing it (assuming this is within 12 hours of ending)

The seller can pull bids at any time, so it makes sense for seller to cancel bid and avoid a potential issue later.

I tend to also block bidder as well in case they make a habit of this

eBay suggest buyers get sellers to cancel bids if within 12 hours of auction end

Up to 12 hours before the end of the listing
All bids you've place on the item will be cancelled automatically
During the last 12 hours of the listing
Only your most recent bid will be cancelled, provided that the bid retraction form is submitted within an hour of your bid
If you want to cancel a bid placed more than an hour ago, you'll need to contact the seller to cancel your bid

Cancel the bid - no point in letting him win it if he isn't going to pay. You could cancel the transaction after that but I would let someone else win it so you don't waste too much time or energy on this.
