    I do still think the the word parasite does best described the relationship of most landlords and the housing market. The basic question are landlords in it for the good of the housing market or the good of themselves?

    I really can’t understand your resentment of landlord the returns are not that high any business is there to make money and charge what the market will bear.

    In the seventies there was very little private property to rent and a lot of what was available was substandard.

    One of my friends went through two in the same flat. The second time the court forgot to send him the eviction notice.

    Then he moved to another flat and a few months later that landlord was being repossessed too.

    It was east London.

    it's quite easy to lose money as a LL, especially if you just pile into it because you see people making money out of it on the telly without doing any research and without having a clue what you are doing.

    I'm a landlord and have never treated any tenant other than how I would expect to have been treated myself when I rented. I imagine I'm not the only one who operates that way

    i've rented loads of places. i think the worst thing that happened was that the LL of a place i lived in charged me £10 for ruining a grill pan which he said was in mint condition when i moved in. it wasn't, but the inventory didn't mention its condition so i don't think it was a dishonest attempt to stiff us, personally.

    Couldnt agree more. It certainly isnt all a bed of roses being a landlord! We win some and lose some when it comes to bad tenants and those that are good, we try and hold on to and treat them with the respect they deserve. On the other hand, we have had, and currently still do have, tenants who have set out to mislead us which has cost us both financially and emotionally. We have worked hard all our lives, saved where we could and gone without to try and make a small business but the road has been full of potholes along the way.

    At the moment, we would willingly get rid of our few properties (which we have mortgages on incidentally) even if if meant having a more meagre lifestyle than we already do at present. However, we cant sell in the current climate so have to hang on in there!
