Hi
I hope I have posted this in the correct section.
My husband is a taxi driver on Sunday he dropped a passenger off at his destination, as my husband was reversing didn't see a moped and knocked it over.
Husband got out and the owner of the moped came over wasn't making a fuss, there was a scratch on the exhaust and small scratch along the one side.
The owner said tell you what just buy us a tin of paint it will be ok (not sure what paints going to do?) then he proceeded to say tell husband you know what I have had a !!!! week just forget it and shook my husbands hand, hubby asked him does he want his details owner said no forget it.
Anyway fast forward to today and the owner has been in touch with my husbands taxi firm about this.
Just after some advice really, will my husband have to pay his excess for the damage, does the hand shake account for anything? There wasn't any witnesses to this.
Many thanks in advance.

Handshake means nothing.
There is no excess to pay on Third Party claims.
He will lose 2 years NCD or "a life" if he has protected NCD.
Just fill in the forms and move on......and hope the third party isnt claiming he was on the bike and claiming for a broken leg and whip lash!"Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
The hand shake counts for nothing. Possibly more damage has been found after the moped rider got home.
I presume he carries his own insurance.
He must contact the insurance company as soon as possible to let them know of this accident. He was at fault, no question.
Even with a handshake, he is required to inform his insurance company of any incident any way, it is in every insurnace companies terms and conditions. If he doesnt he is breaching his contract and the policy could be voided which has far reaching effects.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Great thank you we weren't sure we would have to pay the excess which is £500
The customer in the taxi saw the accident and that he wasn't on the moped, so he witnessed that bit, just not the conversation afterwards, so if tries to pull that he was on it, then the customer can be traced through the taxi company.
Thanks again.0 -

Ok will get this done right away thank you.0 -
He will have mentioned it to a few mates and told to claim.
Wait for the injury claim next. Or he has decided he wants a new exhaust or a few ££ to cover a few extra's.
Or maybe he found more damage than he thought it had originally?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Has he reported the incident to the council? Which I imagine will form part of his licensing agreement with them.0
