i thought there were 'savage cuts' by the 'nasty tories'.

such as the idea of almost tripling the university tuition fees.

O/T but how is it fair that english students studying alonside my sister will this year pay £9000 a year and she'll pay roughly £3500 (as shes welsh)?

and there i was thinking the basic idea of running a government is to save money during the boom years and spend it in the years of recession!

Are you saying that increasing consumer debt did not occur in other G20 countries?

    Not suggesting that.

One of the big differences between the Tories and Labour in recent decades is that when the Tories took power with Thatcher after the winter of discontent Britain was in the gutter. By the time the Tories were kicked out John Major and Ken Clarke left Nu Labor a well balanced Rolls Royce of an economy with a full tank of petrol, Labour when they were later kicked out left the Tories a knackered old Astra running on fumes.

Yes, absolutely! "Dear chief secretary, I'm afraid there is no money. Kind regards - and good luck! Liam." :(

True, but it also gave a more than accurate picture of the UK economy at the time. :)

I should imagine it was slightly better than the one Ossie will be handing on to Balls, what an unfortunate name icon9.gif

even if that is accurate, it isn't really a fair comparison since the economy wasn't in the middle of the biggest global financial crisis for the best part of a century (or in fact perhaps ever) when labour took over in 1997.

    What complete and utter rubbish...

The myth that the UK was dragged down by the USA has been put out there by Labour spin for people who don't know any better.
We created our own problems, self cert, RBS, lending to people who had no chance of paying it back, inflating bubbles(not just property) etc etc.
The contributing factor that I would conceded that the USA had on us that it exposed our failings, it was the classic example of you don't know who is swimming naked until the tide goes out.

And as time goes on and the worse things become, more crimes will be uncovered, LIBOR fixing being the most recent.
