Non payment dilemma

Your despatch and payment icon will not be 'lit' if this went to a second chance offer, the SCO will have nothing to do with your transaction at all.

Thank you but i am even more confused, currently the seller has marked item as paid and dispatched but the other bidder has received it. So in theory i could open an INR, leave neg feedback and request a refund? Although clearly i can not have a refund as i never paid. I do not know what can come of this, i would have thought that the seller has nothing to gain and looks to me like he has left himself in a vulnerable position but i really do not know why he has done this or what he is planning.

Do i need to open an INR incase he opens a NPB later down the line? confused
So you're Red John? I have to say I'm a little disappointed.

How can you open an INR if you haven't paid? it sound like you are very new to ebay but it does pay to understand the basics before you make any problem even worse.

To check if item was resold look at the completed sales for the seller, it should still show both your sale and the second chance offer.

There are 2 possibilities here, either the seller has accidentally ticked yours as despatched instead of the SCO buyer. Or he has marked as despatched to stop ebay sending out reminders to you.

Either way on day 4 he can mark it as unpaid and NPB you, or else he could just leave it. Many sellers don't realise they incur 2 sets of fees if they sell to a SCO without cancelling the first winner.

I'd leave it and wait to see if seller does anything else, you cannot force him to cancel and if he leaves it as it is then it makes no difference to your account.

You really do need to brush up a little on the basics though to understand how to protect yourself and how it all works.

  • I am not new to ebay but use it for private use which is small scale. As it is the first time this has happened I am clueless as to why the seller would still be lighting up my icons and also did not know if there could be further ramifications. His history shows he has sold one of these items and it is to me at my bid, yet his feedback shows the other bidder has received it? It is well past day 4 and he has not opened an NPB but has marked the item as paid.

I appreciate your advice, it would seem that i can just ignore this with no effect and while i agree that my question around opening a INR seems bizarre so does this seller marking my item as paid and dispatched. I take it that this is not an unusual situation on ebay going by your suggestion that i do not understand the basics and need to brush up on my skills? However it is an unusual situation for me and as the seller is not communicating I have asked for advice around something that i do not understand, as there are people better informed than myself. I would consider this to be one way of brushing up on my skills and learning more about the basics.

If the SCO does not show as a sale then it was not sold, and the feedback must relate to something else. A buyer cannot leave feedback unless the sale was on ebay.

  • It is the same item. On my purchase list and on the sellers completed listings the item is showing with all of the bids as sold to me on date, time and price. If i click on sellers feedback and click on view item it is the same listing however it shows as sold 3 days later and for the price of the second bidder. The buyers name and bid id and amount bid/sold for all match up.

  • Is it definitely a one off private sale, not a business? i.e. it's not possible they may have more than one of these and have second chanced it to someone else while still having the stock to sell to you.

If not - if it's definitely a one off thing - I think your best course of action would be instigate a cancellation (again if you haven't officially done so through ebay) and state on it that as it's now been sold second chance and no longer available to you, you trust they will honour the cancellation.
If they still don't agree to do so, pay them with paypal and ask them to dispatch it... and watch them backpedal swiftly when they can't supply it because they've sold it to someone else. ;) You can claim your money back through an INR and that would be more damaging to them than just a mutual cancellation so I expect they'll play ball.
bear in mind if it's a private sale, and not a regular ebayer, they may not really know what they are doing either so might not be being deliberately difficult.

A buyer cannot instigate a cancellation- only the seller can. The only options open to a buyer is to ask for a refund, and as OP has not paid this is obviously not possible.

The buyer does not need this cancelled, she has paid no fees and can get no poor feedback. If seller tries an NPB, and if OP is 100% sure that item has sold elsewhere , then she just needs to pay for it as seller will have to refund.

I think this is a worry over nothing.

  • Thanks MC yes it is a private seller and a one off item but maybe it is more out of inexperience rather than deliberately being obstructive. I will now ignore it.
