How can I get a higher card limit ?

Since last November I've had my Capital One Progress Card which came with a £200 limit. Which is fair enough since it was my first credit card and I was 19 at the time. I was just thankful to get a credit card.
Nearly a year on and I havn't been givin any credit increases and the £200 limit really restricts the use of the card. I'm not looking for a massive limit because I don't deserve one yet, but £200 is too low for me now. A £500-£600 limit would give me much more freedom.
Can anyone recommend a new card for me ? Just something that may give me a higher limit than £200. I'd consider store credit cards too. I dont trust these websites that you put your details into and they match you to credit cards as it said I was eligible for a Santander 123 Card, which I applied for, and was rejected.
Thanks.

You could always ring Cap One and they will advise - either no, you can't have an increase or you'll have to apply for a different type of Cap One card.
A relative of mine had a low limit, he rang them, they said no limit increase until computer says yes (automated). Then a week later he got a limit increase.Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.0 -

As far as I know they never grant a credit limit increase on customer request, it may have just been a coincidence that the credit limit increase occurred.0 -
I had a Capital One card for 3 or 4 years and never got an increase on my credit limit of £4000

try asking your bank for a CC, they know you manage your current a/c well.0

My mate has a 13k credit limit on his cap1 card mind you it's their world MasterCard which is a little different to their credit building cards the progress & classic.0

Have you spent on the card? If not, they probably think the current level is justifiable and that there is no need for an increase.
As they are only 'in it for the money', you may find that if you make a couple of large purchases closer to the limit, it may be increased.
Dodgy ground though, recommending use of the card and I certainly don't want to see you posting on the DFW forum because of it!
As an earlier poster has said, are you sure you want to increase your limit? Why not consider a pre-paid credit card as an alternative?

I am in a simliar situation. i've had mine about a year and have barely used it due to circumstances changing shortly after I got it.
I've been trying for the past few months to spend on it and pay off in full but still nothing. This thread has me so pumped, I headbutted my dog and we both screamed.0 -
I got a CapOne around October 2009 with an initial £200 limit. 3 or 4 months on (can't remember) and this was increased to £400, since then I've had increases to £1000 and now I'm on £1600. I don't think it's solely down to the usage of the card (little use) or, in particular, the available credit limit (never went near).
During the time period between my credit limit increases, my credit file soared (electoral roll information, steady increase of green payment indicators and I applied for some additional small credit products which were run perfectly) so I think it may be just as important to have additional well maintained credit accounts as these could be added in to any particular criteria that CapOne's systems use to allocate increases.0
