New Laptop, average user, best deal

I used to know a bit about computers but it's a tad beyond me now. Stuff just seems so advanced but that tasks i'm doing haven't changed in 5/10 years - Spreadsheets, wordprocessing, playing/streaming videos/music.

Anyway, where's the best place to go for a refurbished or good deal laptop? Don't need the latest one as I say from the above. Seeing as i'm upgrading though I may as well get something half decent. Last time I looked I ended up on the dell refurb website. Seemed okay deals there but if anyone knows anywhere better it would be appreciated.

Last time I looked it seemed to me refurbs come with windows os (preferred) but without any office sofware. I've been told that the open office software is as good so I suppose this doesn't seem too important, Thoughts?

Morgan often have some decent deals.

Buy something cheap and cheerful and for heavens sake put Ubuntu on it! - If you are not playing shop brought games on it, why spend an arm and a leg on Windows when you can get Ubuntu or Mint Linux for free - it's a doddle to use keeps itself up to date, has little problem with viruses or crashes and you can get stacks of decent software like Libre Office, Gimp, Chrome Web browser and endless other stuff all free oh and if there is a windows program you need to run, it'll probably work on Wine (Often works faster than Windows) it's a kind of emulator (not the proper definition) that will run windows programs for you.
My Mind wanders, if found please return.

Keep a lookout on eBay for the Argos clearance shop since they offer some cracking deals on refurb laptops

I would personally plump for the Sony models

Alternatively Comet and PC World also have refurb section on their website where they shift returned laptops or those with minor issues that have been fixed

Again some good HP or Toshiba laptops can be found

Sony also sell clearance laptops usually end of line stock with good discounts but you have to keep a lookout on website sony-europe.com and look for vaio clearance section

Last I looked a decent Pentium was being sold for £350

eBay always offers some excellent bargains if you are confident in bidding for items and have experience of spotting who is and isnt a reliable trustworthy seller

So lots to consider. Post your budget here and other users may be able to recommend decent laptop to buy
