MFI v Howdens Carcasses Questions?

Options
Hi all,

had both my quotes and Howdens are iro £600 more expensive. gonna try and battle them down but ....

do you know.

Howdens supply 18mm rigid carcasses. What do MFI flat pack come us?

Are Howdens colour coded?

Even if they don't come down is the extra £600 worth it coz they come rigid??

Thanks all

Howdens and MFI are the same company. Howdens normally only supply the trade.

I'm not sure but I thought Howdens supplied the Schreiber MFI carcasses i.e. ready built, the flat pack MFI ones are Hygena so different make(at least that was my understanding of our local Howdens when we bought our kitchen a while back) are the two quotes definitely for the same 'cabinets'?

There is a difference between the doors. My friend and I both chose the same kitchen, hers from Howdens mine from MFI and her wood is a lot darker and the grain more obvious than those supplied by MFI. I have heard that Howdens carcasses are of a lesser quality, but we cannot tell the difference.

I am surprised that Howdens came out more expensive. We only chose MFI as the kitchen we wanted they didn't stock, until 3 months after we ordered Howdens started to stock it. Typical.

Howdens and MFI are sister companies. Howdens supply Shcrieber rigid carcasses. Oak, white, beech finishes. Extra cost for clad-on panels to match doors and plinths on sides of cabinets adjacent to chimney hood etc. Tower clad -on decor ends can be very expensive. Backs are stapled in which can be messy and difficult to remove if required.
Hygena supply replacement panels in matched colour for flat packs, all 18mm panels. Benefit is 600mm cabinet remains 600; with clad-on extra 18mm=618mm. Take into account when planning.
Price difference could be discounted appliances as part of deal at MFI.

go for howdens unless you put flat pack together yourself and are good you will not get same results.
also are you looking at a howdens brouchure in colour if so that is retail price not trade.

Agree with bordercars - DH is a joiner working for a property company & they always buy Howdens rigid carcasses as the hassle of putting flatpacks together is not worth the saving.

    Thanks Guys,

Going to go for Howdens. I'm not sure if I'm getting trade prices or not.
I work for a large construction company who have an account with Howdens. Howdens have said that I can order through them as I work for this company. They have given me a 70% disc off the list price which I assume is the retail price.
    E.G Southwold 500 larder tower List price 321.99 70% off I pay £96.59 (nett).

Just need to finalise design and sort out some fitters!!

    Thanks Dumplin
