12 month rule ???

Just a quickie for you experts if poss. I am having a small but escalating discussion with edf over some bills / arrears linked to the installation of a key meter in Nov 08. (For those thinking ''long time ago'' – extreme life events meant that I had no energy or ability to check all bills and payments at that time. The edf errors jumped out at me recently when I opened the 'finance file'. To wet your appetite and to make you laugh – the final arrears bill to be loaded onto the meter (all paid now) took 12 months to be produced and included about £80 for power using 4 different meter readings taken 7-8 months after the meter was removed.

Back to my question: Is it just coincidence that the final arrears bill was dated 364 days after the key meter installation date ?? Is there any link to 12 months in these circumstances.???icon5.gif Thanks

No I don't think any connection with the 12 month backbilling rule.

If they have billed you incorrectly you have 6 years to claim against the company - normal civil legislation.

The 12 month backbilling rule in the billing code is when the company send you no bills(or in some cases inaccurate bills) - and it is their fault. They then can only claim back 12 months. So if for example you got no bill for 18 months, the first 6 months of that period could not be charged.

Lots of caveats, but that is the gist of the code
