Brantano - money grabbing b******s!!

Had a really annoying visit to Brantano today.
Annoyance 1: though they specialise in shoes, they do not stock half sizes - thus presumably losing 50% of their potential customer base.
Annoyance 2: when I asked an 'assistant' whether a 'D' fitting was a wide fitting, she just said that she didn't know and made no attempt to find out.
Annoyance 3: at the till, I was invited to purchase their own brand, over-priced, 'protector spray' for some boots I was purchasing. I replied that I probably had some at home and would need to check before purchasing more. She then said that I should purchase some anyway! What a cheek and why would I want two cans of this stuff cluttering up my home?
Annoyance 4: this was the biggest annoyance - I had just spent £82 in their store on two pairs of boots. You have to take the boxes as otherwise if there is a problem they will not refund. So, the boxes were very big and unwieldy, with loose lids and would definitely not fit in my re-usable shopping bag. So, not unreasonably, I asked for a bag. I was told that if I want a bag then I must pay the money grabbing b*****ds 5p!! What a cheek! I was outraged by this and refused, then I had to carry the unwieldy boxes loose to my car. Ok, 5p is not much, but its the principle that counts here - they were trying to squeeze every possible penny out of me.
Thanks for reading. I feel better now just by typing this, but in future will shop elsewhere, for sure.

They are cheap though. You pays your money and all that. I sympathise with your vent though, it is annoying dealing with such places. But playing devils advocate, you can't supply shoes at their prices AND offer properly trained staff and a choice of half sizes.0

Just say - oh in that case I am over budget - keep the shoes and ask them to reject transaction - bet you get your bag for free.
Half sizes - I can see their point - Each brand is different in sizing so full sizes only means twice the choice. Which means more sales than half the choice in double the sizes. Most women I know would cheat up to two sizes if they though the shoes were hot.
Weekend assistants are going to know about as much about shoes as Pudsey the dog. Just be glad you spent your weekend shoe shopping and not in a hospital as thats where the decent shoe sellers end up.
Upsell - get used to it - Last week the woman at Mcdonalds had the ordasity to ask me if I wanted to go large. I am already a fat bar steward. Didnt say no though but balanced it with a diet coke.
Also how many shoes do you have - you bought two pairs today so thats twice as many as you need. When it comes to shoes I am a man and will always be judgemental.0 -

Annoyance 1: How can they be money grabbing barsetwards then?
Annoyance 2: Did you ask here to find out you didnt say if you did. Why didnt you ask someone else or ask the manager?
Annoyance 3: Well if you were that confident of the boots why did you take the boxes? Paying £82 and a bag for 5p:rotfl:0 -
You do realise that a half size is just a few millimeters more and most manufacturers choose not to make them.
The width fitting, You generally only find a D fitting on the highstreet (Standard fit) E fit or above is wider fitting.0 -

I know, but for those of us who are a half size (and wide fitting too in my flipper-like-feet case) it's impossible to buy good fitting shoes on the high street, unless we want to pay loads of £££s for them. This is very frustrating.... and probably why I live in flip flops in the summer and Doc Marten's in the winter.
Brantano, I tried once but, yes, the half size thing sent me straight out the door. The shoes I looked at were all quite cheap and nasty too."So long and thanks for all the fish" :hello:0 -

You'll find it'll fit alot better.0 -
If you're 'outraged' by 5p, I can't wait until you find something real to complain about.0

I can't believe they gave you large boxes for large boots. Surely a box half the size of the boots would have done the job just as well.0

It was Brantano !
If you need half sizes, a choice of whether to take the box AND a free carrier bag, try Russell & Bromley.0
