underfloor insulation

Hi All
Does anyone have any recommendations for underfloor insulation? Our floors will have floorboards/ rugs not carpets and I'm worried that somwthing like rockwool is inappropriate for that. Any thoughts?
Thanks

Rockwool or similar products sold as loft insulation will be fine.

Put it between the joists using plastic netting to hold the insulation in place.
In practice this either means removing the floorboards, or crawling about under the floor if there is enough space.

I did that when I replace all my floors a few years ago, simple pea netting doubled up.
That's the cheapest, not the best.
I think if you are going to the trouble, and are not on a strict budget as I was, then polystyrene would be a decent compromise, not the best but not the most expensive and better than rockwool.

Problem with RW is that you can never really be sure if it's sagged away or the netting has ripped out etc.
Poly tightly fitted with a few roofing lathes to support it as insurance is going nowhere.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

  • Hi
Thanks for this. I am a total newbie at DIY - do you mean little poly balls in netting or something else? If you have time to send me an internet link that would be amazing.

    Thanks

No I mean the 50mm thick 8 x 4 sheets of solid polystyrene that wickes etc and all builders mercs stock,;);)

Just enter polystyrene in wickes or B&Qs search facility and bingo.

  • Hi there - I used an amazing product that I found on the web called Therma-Foil, designed for floor insulation - highly effective and has saved us a fortune in ful bills whist dampening the sound on the wooden floors. We also put it under the underlay under carpets - every room s so much warmer - their website is under the name if therma-foil.co.uk
