Returning an item without the debit card used?

Hi
I was just wondering if anyone could help.
I bought a Le Creuset kettle from John lewis on the 26th of june, but today I noticed a 10p sized circle where the outer layer has come off. I paid by debit card and still do have the receipt but I have misplaced/lost the card I used to pay for it. So what should If I want to return the item?- Should I order a new card but would I also have to bring in a statement for the account or am I stuck?

If u want an exhange it shouldn't be a problem. If you want a refund then they will want the original form of payment.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0

Depends on what you want to do. If it's to exchange the receipt will be enough, for a refund you would need the card but if the card is lost just take the new one and explain (only if it's mentioned they might not even notice)0

Cancel your card NOW if you think you've lost it.0

I find JL quite flexible with refunds, they have refunded me onto a different card several times.0 -
Thanks for the speedy replies everyone. I know the card is at home but I don't know where! I will go tomorrow and see if I can get an exchange.0

This happened to me with Argos. I'd changed banks in the period the item became faulty. The manager went off and rang accounts who verified my old bank statement to the card somehow. To be honest I don't think they really did anything technical, rather, he just needed to get authorisation.
I'd imagine JL will do something similar. After all you could purchase something and then get a new card replacement for an expired one; the numbers are always different.2012 Wins: 1 x Case of Lanson Champagne :beer:0 -

I've found the same.
A few months back I purchased a fairly expensive laptop from JL, and about 2 weeks after purchase one of the keys became hard to operate.
I was out of the UK at this time, so couldn't get the laptop back to them until about 7 weeks from purchase.
They sent it away for repair and when it was returned a week later the sticky key was fine but the replacement keyboard hadn't been fitted correctly and was bowed.
The sales assistant took one look and said it was no good, but they didn't have a replacement item in store so asked if I wanted a refund.
At this time I had neither my original receipt nor the card I paid with but they still managed to refund my card for the full amount.
They probably had the original transaction reversed by their accounts department.0 -

Given that it's faulty they should replace so there shouldn't be an issue.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016

I've had refunds put on different cards numerous times from various different retailers. They usually don't check. In the case that they do, I just say this is a replacement card for the one I paid with. But I've found it's really rare that they bother to check!0

Method does not imply the identical card.
Method means debit to debit, cash to cash, credit to credit. The OFT (i think...there's a link that I am honestly too lazy to find, considering I made a thread ABOUT it a while back) says that cash must always be refunded as cash, debit CAN be refunded as cash if asked (because it's basically electronic cash) but credit must ALWAYS be refunded as credit.
And most people don't check because they honstly don't know. Oddly, retail staff never tend to get trained about that sort of thing, but I always check at least if I'm refunding to a credit card or debit card.0
