Part time work for a student

I have called a lot of the shops in my local town, or looked on their websites for vacancies - what else can I do?
What tricks am I missing?
Many thanks,
Walking round the shops and looking in the windows. In my town, the shops and cafes just put staff wanted notices in the shop windows. I doubt they make the jobcentre website and definitely not places like Reed.co.uk.0 -
Register with agencies.
Eg recently where I live there have been 3 major recruitment drives for part time work (would suit a student).
Eg was Santander - who wanted people to work as "collection agents" - I ringing about credit card debts and payment plans. Hours were 6 - 10 pm weekdays and 9-5 weekends. Wages were approx £9 per hour and you could work 12 - 30 hours a week (once shifts in place they were set).
The ambulance service and british Gas were the other 2 - both offering fantastic rates of pay (999 operator was £13 ph for night/sunday shifts) - again flexible hours at start but once desingated they became your hours. I'm looking to go to Uni in January to do my MA and am hoping something like this is around then.0
