Going on holiday in a week. Got connecting flights, going from Manchester to Gatwick (north terminal ) and then a connecting flight to Venice. We have 50 minutes to get to the gate for the Venice flight. How far is it? Our cases are going straight through, but i have health problems, heart, that make walking
very tiring and i have heard it's a mile and a 1/4 to the furthest gate.
If that is the case, forget it, I've missed the flight.
And i asked my travel agent for a stress free holiday

What time is the next flight to Venice?Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Surely you can request assistance prior to travelling?0

I don't think anyone can say for sure as we don't know which gate your flight will arrive at and which gate your connecting flight will leave from, they might be next to each other, they might be 20 mins apart.
I would definitley request assistance between flights, the service is there for people ho have difficulties with mobility, don't be afraid to use it.

Most domestic flights arrive at Gates 55-57, if your Venice Flight departs from a gate nunbered up to 68 it is only a short transfer, if it is one of gates numbered 100 plus, it is a long transfer. The minimum connection time is 45 minutes, you only have 5 minutes longer than the minimum, you should check in on line for your flights and make sure you get a seat near the front of the aircraft if you feel you can walk. If not then ask for assistance in advance, however this means you may be left to last to disembark.
If you are on one ticket, BA will know if there is a delay on the Manchester flight arriving and may hold it for a couple of minutes, if not they will put you on the next flight. However, I think if you have real issues in walking I would get another travel agent, there are direct flights on at least 2 airlines and Venice I have to say is a city for walking....take care, I hope it all works out0 -
Request assistance in advance-some of the walks between gates are a long way and anyone can use assistance you don't need to produce any doctor's letter or anything -and get your holiday off to a stress free start.
So long as the flights are on the SAME ticket the airline will get you out on their next flight if you miss your connection (may be worth checking when that is) if they are seperate tickets-you have a problem !I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
If you're transfering from North terminal to North terminal, or South to South you should be alright, North to South or South to North may be pushing it but Gatwick isn't a particukarly large airport.0

I've never looked into it, but I always assumed those quad-bike type things they drive around the airport was for situations like this?0

45 mins is the minium connection time, as you are comming in via a domestic flight you will need to arrive via domestic arrivals then up 2 floors and trough international departue / pass port control ( you can't just go from gate to gate ) , yo would be better to get asstiance as it can be quite a walk make sure you book it 24 hours before departure0

thanks to everyone for their advice. Am going to phone this morning and see what Gatwick can do. Have been on their site but it only says wheel chair users which i am not, yet anyway. It's a bit embarrassing because although i am 75 i look perfectly healthy and they may wonder if i am swinging the lead .Anyway i have documentation that the hospital have insisted that i carry with me. Thanks, you've been very helpful0

Contact your airline to request assistance.
For this occasion you are defined as someone you needs a wheelchair (or a lift in a buggy).
You can request varies type of assistance -- eg just to the plane, or to the plane and then in a lifter up onto the aircraft.
Don't be embarrassed about looking "perfectly healthy." Anyone can request special assistance without having to give an explanation.0
