Radiator Thermostats

Can't believe that it's nearly September but thought it was time to start thinking about how to reduce spending on heating this Winter. We have a fairly old system (though the boiler is only 3 years old) and it was flushed earlier this year, and a new pump fitted but we forgot to ask the plumber about fitting thermostats to the individual radiators.
Don't want to get him back in (he was very messy and unreliable) so the question is, do we need to find ourselves another plumber or could we DIY ?
Thanks.

Can't see why you can't DIY.
Drain system fully, then remove wheelhead valves and replace with TRV's.
Depending on what you have fitted now, you may have to change the tails in the radiators, if you're lucky you may be able to use existing ones.
Don't use the Siemens valves for replacement such as your job. They are very good valves, but the tail is about 1/4" too long, so will make it very hard for a simple change over.
I would recommend Honeywell valves for a good all round valve and reasonable price.
You may also be wise to replace the lockshield valves at the same time. Buy them as a pair with Honeywell.
Don't forget NOT to put a TRV on the radiator in the room with your room thermostat.0
