The OP is a full time student and so ineligible for JSA.

I must admit that I read the OP as seeking advice before they reach the end of their final year. I thought that they werre trying to be prepared for the future, finding out what options are available to them after they complete their course. I didn't think of them meaning that they are currently seeking work.

It just goes to show how we can interpret things differently.

    Yes but they said

Someone mentioned I maybe able to claim ESA while I'm looking for a job.

Would I be eligible for this? From what I have found so far, disabled students can make a claim if they receive DLA, which I do. Is this correct?

Calling themselves a student implies they are a student at the time of applying for benefit and not once studies have finished when they would no longer be a student.

    OP

You may qualify for ESA automatically, see section 15.1 of the following

  • Thank you all. Have sent off an application. We shall see. :)
  • Can anyone comment on whether I would actually receive anything from ESA if I was given it, when I'm receiving full student grants and loans (totalling £5800)?

If what I receive in loans and grants means all of my ESA allowance would be taken away, it wouldn't be worth me claiming, right?

It's marginal and may depend on what Premiums, if any are payable. Your local CAB or Welfare Rights office should be able to give you a sensible estimate.
