........I still have to replace the main stopcock, as it leaks for a week when you touch it. Fitting a second one seems the easy way, as it's a pain to get to anyway.
Sounds like it needs re-packing
Last one I did I didn't bother hooking out the old packing, I just added more.Replacing the packing
1 With the tap turned off use a spanner to remove the gland nut.
2 Pluck out the old packing with a sharp implement or small screwdriver. Replace it with packing string from a plumber’s merchant or with PTFE tape stretched into a thin string. Pack it in with a screwdriver, replace the gland nut and reassemble the tap, and turn on to test.....
Obviously it the tap is easy to change then change it but the one I repacked had no upstream isolator so would have needed the pipe frozen to change it0
