3 year old playstation sold as new

I thought this might be a common problem but googling has produced nothing relevant so apologies if this has been answered elsewhere.
I bought my grandson a new PS3 from Amazon last week, when we set it up I was surprised to see the clock was based on 2009 as was its software version.
So we have been sold a console which could have been made nearly four years ago and which will thus not have any improvements incorporated into PS3's during that time?
Any thoughts please?
regards
Phil Smith

Get your money back and go and buy the newer version from the shop. Sony has made alot of improvements in the PS3 over 3 years.0

How much did you pay for it ?I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.0

Use the serial number for the manufacture date not the software.
Give Sony a call they will tell you when it was made.
in fact have a look for the sticker on the bottom with the build date on it.0 -
I don't see why this is posted in Consumer Rights, this isn't a rights issue. The product is new even IF it has been sat on a shelf for 3 years.
You ordered a new PS3, yours is new and is a PS3.0 -

When you set it up all the software updates etc will come through to the Ps3 to update it. If it's not been used previously the item is new.0
