I need to transfer money from my account to someone elses account (both in the uk). Unfortunately I am no where near my bank or any bank for that matter. I looked on western union and it says for a limited time only you can transfer them money for free. I want to use it but I'm a bit wary, has anyone used this limited offer are there any underlying charges or is it one of those free trial things and when you register it starts charging you after 30 days. Or is it ligit and I can use it to transfer money for free. It's quite a bit on money I need to transfer so will that make any difference.

Doesn't your bank offer on-line or telephone banking?

The link says that there are no transfer fees when you pay with a card, but I suspect that there will be significant fees for paying by card.

No I've been meaning to set online banking up. I'm going to sign up today but it will take a while for it to be up and running, hence why I was going to use western union.

Are there any other ways to do it? We both use the same bank.
  • Not unless you have already set up internet banking - no.

Do you know the person who asked you to transfer by Western Union?

If not, don't touch it. Western Union is the favourite money transfer outfit for scammers.

What is the urgency for the transfer? Why can't you write a cheque, or go into your bank tomorrow to make the payment?
