Ryanair - cancelled flights

Well, sort of got a little bit of progress. Still not phoned Ryanair yet though, dreading trying to get through to them!!!
Well, I phoned Holiday Inn (central reservations UK) and they were sympathetic. She said she can't arrange a refund but could change it to a week earlier, but increase to the rate from £58.50 to £67.17 (our rate is in Euros though €58.50, so I don't know if she mean €67.17 rather than £ - so that's sort of do-able but annoying to pay more). She also suggested that I could call the hotel directly and tell them what has happened and ask if they will cancel. This is all quite a hassle.
Or we cancel our flight, book a Manchester to Rome flight on the same dates and not really pay much more, but had a pretty nasty drive, although flight times are ok in that it departs at 5pm and gets back at about 5pm so no overnight stays required.
I can't decide now. I really need to phone Ryanair and find out whether I can change to the 2-5th at no charge - right now the flights are more expensive but they were the same price as our original dates when we booked.
This wasting my bank holiday Monday. :mad:0 -
Are you sure you cannot change your booking yourself free-of-charge through their website?0

Just called the hotel directly and they've allowed me to cancel without penalty. The girl I spoke to said if we want to re-book other dates she suggests we cancel and then rebook separately so at least that part is now sorted.
That said, I really wanted to go to RomeI might try logging on to Ryanair now to see if we can change the flights online then. I hadn't realised you could do that - I thought you could just cancel online.....

jpsartre - just tried that it was adding all sorts of admin fees then deducting the cost of the original booking but would have cost us an additional £200 almost to change the flights by doing it online. Decided just to cancel online.
Only problem now is that we're not going to Rome, and I've spent half the day getting a headache due to it allReally good of the hotel to allow the cancellation though, very thankful to them for that. The girl I spoke to was really nice.

Very annoying though I still think they would have transferred you to flights a week earlier free-of-charge over the phone.0

Oh, should have mentioned the flight time was very early from Edinburgh the week before. The flights we had booked were afternoon flights with a rather late arrival back into Edinburgh on the Monday night so we had taken the Tuesday off work. However, the flight a week earlier would have been 630 am from Edinburgh and we'd have had to leave our house at 330 or so for that, not something we'd have booked in the first place. Plus the hotel rate was higher the week before too, so it really just wasn't for the best.
Thanks to everyone for help and suggestions today though. It's a bit annoying, but we're off to Vegas this coming weekend so I'm going to focus on that and look for another city break for November once we get home from Vegas.0
