Request for positive feedback

Not a serious question, just want to grumble a bit.

A seller has just messaged me telling me that they had dispatched my item and asking specifically for positive feedback.

I had a quick check, and they haven't left feedback for me, even though I paid immediately I won the auction.

I'm not <something> minded enough to let the request affect the feedback or stars that I leave, which I will do honestly and leave positive feedback if everything is as it should be.

But I just wanted to grumble a bit about the minor cheek of the seller asking for timely positive feedback when they haven't given me any.

I'm tempted to leave positive feedback saying "here is the positive feedback you asked me to leave". But again while I might joke about that, I wouldn't actually do it.

Wait until you receive the item, before giving the feedback on ebay.

In the good old days, sellers used to black mail customers by giving the same rating as the customer gave to the company. Nowadays Sellers can only give positive feedback. No neutral or bad reviews are possible.
  • I can see this as being a bit cheeky

I too send a message to the buyer when I have despatched their item to inform them I have posted the item but politely ask them to leave feedback once they have received it

I don't mention feedback in any messages - feedback should reflect my buyer's view of the transaction, not my insistence as to what they should leave to protect my account or whatever.

I leave feedback on payment for the same reasons - they've done their bit, now I have to do mine.

I don't often get these kind of messages, like you I might not make any impact depending on how they approach it, but if they are lecturing me about the safety of their account I might mark them down on comms.

I dont mind a polite request for fb, but if i get more than one it does annoy me.
What i do see happening more and more lately is sellers asking for pos fb to release funds in paypal so they can then post.
  • Isn't it now time for sellers feedback to be made redundant? Seems pointless since sellers can only leave positive feedback for a buyer.

Its only use is for scammers to buy loads of cheap items to get a good looking feedback score...

If you mean buyer feedback I agree.

If you do mean seller feedback, no, I disagree, it's useful to know who I'm giving my money to, at least in the case of private sellers.

I'm more confident the higher number someone has. I find I get very few problems from people with 5,000+ FB. Below that, the tendency to get banned is higher. Interestingly the people I'm more suspicious of tend to have purple stars. They are experienced enough sellers to get jaded, but not experienced enough to understand the marketplace inside out. Judging by the 'I've been banned, help!' threads on Seller Central, the largest number of those by far have turquoise, purple or red stars (they have been going long enough to get a ban, but not progressed far enough to be relatively safe and - to a certain extent - generate the volume to dilute the odd low star).
