We had this problem in our last house and it took ages to figure out where they were coming from.
Eventually we discovered they were coming in the chimney hood.(We had a big stainless steel chimney extractor)

i saw citronella candles in woolies at the start of the week

they are often with camping/picnic/outdoor/spring/summer/seasonal stuff if that helps at all

I think it must be a sesonal product as Sainsburys don't have any at the moment. For fly protection duty though you want the gel sticks, not candles.

The only thing I could find was some citronella oil in Homebase, but I didn't think this was suitable.

Can anyone advise who's had this problem how long it lasted?

Few days, few weeks, depends how many were laid. Bear in mind they don't want to hang about your house now, they just follow light to get outside.

Often if they are laid in an attic they will squeeze through light fittings, epecially when they are turned on.

Citonella oil is the repellant, but the gel sticks are a really useful way of deploying it. I wish I could find a current supplier. You might try some orange peel as a tactical measure to speed them up.

Well all has been clear for the past couple of days, :j I kept the window open all weekend, and there's been nothing waiting to greet me when I've come home from work, but I don't want to talk too soon. :lipsrseal
