Hi. My persoanl allowance for 2011/12 was £10140 (may tax code was 1014L), but when i do the online self assesment it assumes a normal personal allowance of £7475, and therefore thinks I owe a lot more tax then i due.
Does any one know if it is possible to adjust the personal allowance online??

Have you put the figures for gross pay, tax paid etc. in yet? That should get the PA calculated correctly.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

Date of birth may also be required if this is an age related amount. Also, just cause your tax code had this allowance doesn't mean you're entitled to it - your total income has to be within certain limits to get it - roughly how much income have you declared on your tax return?
The amount quoted isn't actually a Personal Allowance rate for 11/12 so maybe you're getting confuse between the allowance and something else in your code - expense, pension relief etc? What was the constituent parts of your 1014 code?0 -
Hi, its not an age related allowance. Employed income is circa £28,000 gross. Self employed net profits circa £3500.
TAx code = £7475 PA, £2394 Job expenses, £275 professional subscriptions
Thank for any info that might help0 -
You need to complete the correct boxes on your employment page for you Job expenses and P subs. Im quite sure that its in the last section under expenses. Everyone will automatically get the basic PA and you need to complete the relevant boxes for the computer to 'know' that your tax allowance should differ from the basic.March 2014 Grocery challenge £250.000
