EON online tariff comparison

Good morning all and I wonder if anyone can help with this as I'm confused.

I've just had my August bill from EON. I had to switch to EON Energy Online in May. We have used more power compared with last year but the bill is certainly disproportionate with the extra amount used meaning that the new tariff isn't much good.

So I decided to use a uswitch and EDF to see what was about. I plugged in 400 kw/h gas and 2200 electricity for the year based on last years figures. They came up with my current plan is the best one (EON Online Energy) at £600.00.

Brilliant, except that our yearly bill is £1100 and the last bill on this tariff for last quarter was £300.00.

So how come £600 per year total. EDF say they can't beat it!

Any ideas please of how to get a realistic quote and change for the amount I use?

Many thanks

PS I have just got a quote from the EON website for £300 per year for this amount - 'm even more confused now:)

Are you using actual yearly figures fom last years bill / readings to now? Your reading's to me seem low, especially gas, is your input reading in Cubic metres or Kwh?
Are your previous bills based on estimates or actual readings?

You cannot possibly have used only 400kWh of gas in a year in a property with gas CH and DHW. A typical usage would be around 16,500kWh.
Your electricity usage is also very low-an average would be around 3,300kWh.
I suspect you are using units of gas used by volume as read from your meter, which is not the same. Your gas meter measures volume either in cu m (if metric) or 100's cu ft (if imperial). Which is it? You then need to convert that reading to kWh (which is what you are billed in) before inputting that figure into a comp site..

As they say, rubbish in rubbish out. Re check your figures as they are ridiculously low, annual averages are 16500 gas and 3300 electric.

As stated above check bills for actual measurements and check gas meter for type.

From link 2nd post, yours might be older??

"Most modern gas meters measure gas in cubic metres (m3). The energy contained in gas is measured in kilowatt-hours (abbreviated to kWh) and for natural gas is 11.2 kWh per cubic metre.

Older gas meters measure gas in hundreds of cubic feet - 100 cubic feet equal 2.83 cubic metres. So the energy contained in gas measured by an older gas meter is 31.7 kWh per 100 cubic feet."

But kwh should be on your bill??

Apologies to all. I feel very embarrassed as even after double checking I got the figures wrong.

Sorry to all........just need to try and find a better plan now.

Thanks to you all who pointed it out.
