I got mine for 25 quid from eBay, will only fit my car though...but didn't cost much compared to halfords etc,..0

Loads of different roof rack manufacturers. Some very good designs and some poor ones also though.
On the mondeo they fit into a channel in the roof, So no drips or torrents of water when you open the door.
But you can also get brackets to mount in the door opening, Again some are good and some look like they will damage the paint or the door seals.
The inflatable roofbars do look quite good, But you need the right shape items to carry.
Ideal to keep in the car for emergencies.
I now have fixed rails and trimmed down a pair of cheap bars and fixed them under my parcel shelf.
Always in the car if i need them.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Unfortunately the phrase "only option" is the one I failed to beleive. Lots of manufacturers out there.
You can pick up a decent set on gumtree for about £15, so £30 for 2 is a heck of a lot cheaper than new. Most of the time you can also just change the feet.0 -
I own one of the inflatable roof racks and they are very sturdy. If you are really struggling to find one that fits your specific car - then the inflatable roof rack does the trick.0

I bought some Mont Blanc roof bars on ebay and they came with several fitting bits and a long list of cars they will fit. My Auris wasn't listed but they fitted OK.0

I have a roof box that I have used succesfully on 3 previous cars (all Vauxhall and all had the same fitting). It uses Thule bars and feet. To change the feet to fit my current car will cost £130!
I only wanted to fit it on this car to take DD and her stuff back to Uni. It is cheaper to hire a van for the weekend, which is what I will now do. The roofbox will be consigned to the tip. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I have used the above company many times, always great service, just type in car model and it will give you the various options, they sometimes have some reduced "returns"0
