Rainy Days - can understand your wanting to move to Northumberland - we're in Durham. Northumberland is gorgeous - lovely beaches!
Aww bless you - we love it up there. In fact I sleep so well and feel more at home there than I have ever felt anywhere and yes the beaches are gorgeous. We are looking just north around Morpeth or thereabouts and up towards Alnwick as well. More than anything I love the peace and the people. Allot to be said for that. My heart sinks when we have to come back down to Northants.
Someone asked me at work about me being mad for wanting to move up there - you know the old, old "it's grim up north" thing, my final parting shot was "and finally there was no rioting in the North East last year when it was kicking off everywhere else!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money:beer:

 I'm from there! It is lovely, I miss it and go back a few times a year to see family and friends. Trouble is there's not much work in the area, never has been really, and I ended up moving away for a job. Then I ended up with an OH as well so much as I'd have liked to go back I'm in Essex for the forseeable, where houses cost 2-3 times as much as well! Furious I am. Maybe I'll retire back there, in a gajillion years...
Oh but don't encourage people to move there too much will you? I don't want absolute hordes of people to discover it exists, they might spoil it.0 -
That's true and I want to be able to walk with my family and my dog and not see a soul!0

Ooh. I've hit a bit of a wall.
OH is working, and so things have ground to a halt as I daren't go in the loft, especially if the kids are downstairs on their own.
We have a mahoooosive pile of bin bags and boxes in the dining room for charity. Reason being the children's hospice is quite a way away and their delivery drivers are off until tomorrow. I *really* want it to go to that particular charity, although the piles are getting me down.
We also have random 'stuff' everywhere that's come out but hasn't gone back up yet (record player which I need to keep, OH's gran's horrible brass candle sticks that I hate but he wants to keep, piles of clothes in various states of being washed before they are shipped out).
And then there's the dirt from the loft, which is accumulating around the piles and the usual muck we have from 2 kids and 2 dogs.:(:(
This happens every time. Anyway. That's where we are. With a loft that's 17.3% tidier and a downstairs that 100% more cluttered and a bit filthy.
I know that we just need another push when OH has an early finish to get it shifted, but it's very disheartening.

ps does anyone know whether charity shops take videos any more while I'm on? My mother has taken it upon herself to add her clutter (inc loads of videos) to our clearout by shoving crap in the boot of my car the other day when I went to visit.
Granted, her house is worse than mine (Dad issues) but I'm still upset that she's making a big problem worse.
Why not give her the phone number of her local hospice shop and suggest she arranges to get her stuff collected herself?0 -
I think some will take videos but have you considered freecycle/freegle?
Free to use & people just collect the stuff from you. Offload anything (except kids & the OH)
You can even list random stuff like bits of guttering/garden stuff/"stuff" that could be useful for someone, somewhere...
We've offloaded tons of stuff & received some cracking bits too
Several local charity shops will take clothes for the "ragbag" as they get paid so much per bag/ton for it.
Hope that helps...Lurking in a galaxy far far away...0 -
Charity shops have many videos still - and cassette tapes.
I go to good areas if I am looking for things for myself, and bad areas if I am donating! I do prefer the less well known charity shops, as the others are becoming much the same and have higher prices.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

Hi Folks
Any of you struggling with getting rid of sentimental clutter needs to pop over to the "Hoarding ... not just on TV" thread - a lot of the issues you are facing have already been well covered there and solutions and new ways of thinking found
Best of luck allYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -

I had a few to get rid of and just put them with my other stuff to go to the charity shop - I didn't think to check first. If you can't take them to a charity shop just bin/recycle them. I know it feels like an awful waste but your mental health and wellbeing is more important.
It's not good when the house looks worse than it did before you started decluttering, but keep going - you'll get there in the end0
