Bank Refusing To Reimburse Credit Card Fraud - Pleas Help!!

HI,

I really need some help!!!. I am a 21 year student at Leeds University, last year my student card & credit card were used by fraudsters. 1st card they took money out from the bank itself!!! which was refunded & second card was used at a hotel (without pin as i dont know it myself) My student card was refunded right away but my credit card still remains an issue. The bank is refusing to refund my credit card bcos i didnt file a police report. Ive atleast been into my local branch 20 times and the employee dealing with my claim promised me each time that he would take care of the credit card issue aswell as the student card. I filled out a form which he said will be sent to the police for a crime reference number and again was reasured that this will be sorted out. My student card was refunded but a year down the line i discover that the employee never farworded the form to the police and never sorted the credit card issue out. Now the i have been told my claim isnt valid and am responsible to pay all charges!.

please can someone advise me what to do as i connot afford to pay 500 for something i never did in the first place

thanks

mike

Report the fraud to the police yourself. Just give your local station a call (they will be in the phone book under police - do not call 999), give them the details, apologise for not reporting it immediately and get a crime number. They can normally issue these over the phone and will follow up with a letter. You should do this anyway - while the police are highly unlikely take any action over your crime, by reporting it they can build up a picture. If lots of people record fraud after visiting shop X then it suggests shop X may be worth a look.

Once you have the crime number, submit it to your card company.

That is pants. It leaves us relying on the banks completely, as if these situations aren't stressful enough.
I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off :o

The problem is guys that i went to he police and was told by the police officer that i needed some forms which i did not have, so i went back to the bank and spoke to the employee dealing with my case and was told not to worry about it and that he had all the required forms and would farword them to the police himself. Yesterday i was phoned by the fraud investigator at natwest and was told that my claim is not valid, because there is no crime reference number etc.(remember this fraud happened over a year ago). I said to the investigator at Natwest i will go to the police station now and file the fraud and come back with the CRN but was told it wont make a difference now. Im pist with this as i was told by my local branch over a year ago that they would report this to the police and theres no need for me to worry. Now the only option i have left i have been told is to appeal the natwest investigors decision in writing as she will not deal with me over the phone again as she believes the matter is closed.

is there anything i can do

    thanks for you replys guys
