Samsung £100 cashback, is there a catch?

I am considering buying a laptop or ultrabook and the £100 cashback would mean I can get a very good spec at a reasonable price. But is there some snag that means not everyone can claim this money? It seems to be advertised as a back to school thing, so I don`t want to be caught out paying £100 more than I wanted to then not getting the cashback. If this claim has to be backed up by proof of being a student then I will not qualify.

I have looked at the details of the deal and there is a link to the claim form and T&C but I got an error message when I tried to look at it.

TIA,
SM

  • Throw the link up so that others can take a look then

  • No the claim form does not ask for proof of being a student, just proof of purchase.

I had a similar cashback offer when buying a panasonic camera...and it all worked fine.

    From it's T&C's

It's from all retailers and authorised Samsung retailers, So check out other places for prices/deals when you find the laptop you want. Like John Lewis, 2 year warranty etc.
It excludes places Like Pixmania . Place must be registered in the UK, or in Ireland (if you live in Ireland)

The part is bold is completely wrong and would have likely caused claimaints to lose their cashback if they followed that advice.

    The correct information is here:
    3. Claims must be made within 30–45 days from the date of purchase, for the avoidance of doubt the date of purchase on the invoice or receipt counts as day 1.
Claims must be submitted no sooner than 30 days and no later than 45 days from the date of invoice.
Claims received outside this period will be marked as invalid and will not be entered into the promotion.

Thanks everyone, I think I will go for it. I had added several of the ultrabooks to my Amazon wishlist and I swear the darned things have gone up in price overnight ( this has happened to me before with other things on Amazon)

I will do some trawling around for best prices elsewhere - just need to decide whether to buy the 13 inch plus an external optical drive or pay the extra for the 14 inch with optical drive built in (the slightly bigger screen is nice too). I have just done a very quick search and there are some ultrabooks not included on the promotion but may still be cheaper to buy.

I am assuming the ultrabook is better than a chromebook ( my needs are general surfing, online shopping, storing my music CD collection and typing the odd letter. Also for iplayer to watch TV in bed) I will only be using this at home, I have a desktop but am fed up of sitting on a kitchen chair and would much prefer lounging on the sofa, watching TV and surfing at the same time.

If anyone has a chromebook or ultrabook I would love to hear what you think of it.

Buy one without an optical drive. When you think about how much you use one, its not worth having.

Chromebooks are dire. No internet access, no apps.

The link to the claim site from http://www.samsung.com/uk/student/cashback.html is not working (no error message in Firefox, just a completely blank screen)

Does anyone know if the website's down?
