courier/collection service

Hi All

Please could I have some advice from more experienced ebayers.

I have just won a bid for some chair covers for my wedding. I live in London, the seller in Portsmouth. Stupidly (I know!!!), I have worked out it will cost me well in excess of £50 in petrol and at least 5 hours to collect myself. Please could someone with experience tell me the best way to get them couriered to me. They weigh a total of 10kg

The seller will not post but has said she is happy for me to send a courier to collect

Many thanks for any replies

take a look on one of the courier sites such as parcelmonkey etc

best to pick one of the options for delivery by DHL or FedEx etc type in your details and it will give you a whole load of options, can be very cheap too.

Just make sure the seller is prepared to wait in for the pickup, as they don't tend to give a time so it would mean waiting in all day, if they are not, Parcelforce I believe give a 1 hour time slot but are on the expensive side.
  • sniggings, thank you for replying so quickly :-)
  • It depends on whether the seller is prepared to package them up and address them for you, as well as wait in for a courier. If she is, you could use a site like Interparcel or Parcelmonkey to book a courier. If not, and she will at least bag them in a bin liner or a box, you may be able to get them collected via a service like anyvan.com. Prices vary wildly so you will need to see what fits your circumstances best.

You could also ask the seller if they would be willing to drop the parcel off at the Post Office for you if they are not happy to wait home for collection.

If so, you can via Parcel Monkey or direct via Parcel Forces own website make the booking, pay for it etc so all the seller has to do is print the label, attach it to the parcel.

You just need the sellers address etc so you can fill in the booking form as if you are the sender.

If you do go via Parcel Force directly, consider using Top Cashback and get £3 cash back, there is also a 15% discount code on Top CashBack
  • I'd go https://www.parcelmonkey.co.uk as that parcel is quite heavy, or https://www.myhermes.co.uk depending on the amount of time you have. Also the seller may prefer myHermes as they'll collect from a safe place on their premises, whereas other couriers require you to be present.
