What a shower of shi....

I say dear Peeps!!

Good evening to you all. One was wondering if any of you good posters would be able to assist with a little problem.

3 years ago we purchased a new shower from Bathstore that was made by a company called Mayfair. It came with a 5 year warranty. It was a bit pricey, but we were told that it was a quality item, hence the long term warranty.

We've not been able to use the thing since May. Water seeps out of the handles as well as the shower head. One rang the fantastically inept aftersales 'team' who told me initially that it could not have been one of thier showers as they do not supply bathstore.
One sent them a photo of the shower and proof of purchase - as well as reminding them that one was able to ring them in the first place as it was their details on the accompanying manual. They said it was probably a faulty cartridge and it needed a clean. We had already paid for a plumber (who installed it in the first place) to come and have a look. He had suggested the same, stripped it, cleaned it and still it leaked.
Begrudgingly, they sent a cartridge in the post - but it is a new design - the original was solid brass, the new one is part brass, part plastic and is a different size, rendering it useless.

I rang them and said we needed the original cartridge, but was told that they did not make these. the company that did has gone under and all that they can do is offer us a full replacement shower at cost price(£150.00 inc VAT). A quick search on tinternet shows that many suppliers still sell this shower - all with a 5 year warranty.

Are there any consumer rights that protects one against such scenarios, or are these types of warranties not worth a jot?

One would like to suggest that one is wet behind the ears......no danger of that with a Mayfair shower.

My understanding of the law is that if one purchases goods with a warranty, said warranty is held with the business who supplied the goods. If item breaks down, one returns item, or has it repaired on site, or at the supplier's premises. The retailer / supplier then claims through the manufacturer.

In instances where the supplying dealer / retailer / supplier has 'gone under' it is up to the manufacturer to provide good will.

    Although I may be wrong.

I would argue that one may be incorrect. ;)

Any warranty is in addition to one's statutory rights, and lies with whichever party offers such. If this was Bathstore then so be it ... if this was Mayfair then the warranty still holds. However one must check the terms of the warranty. :)

Problem being they say Bathstore is not an authorised retailer. Warranties are usualy only valid if bought from authorised retailers. Bathstore would be liable for this one if they arranged the fitting, the fitter if not.
