Comet & Haggling

Hi guys

usually i am not one to haggle i just usually buy it for the full price but today i fancied buying a laptop and found a nice spec and a nice design for £379.

In my eyes though i feel its expensive for what it is and what i use it for there are far better PC's out there for that money even though i don't want a PC

Besides ive seen it online for £335 but i always seem to think buying it in store is better if you have any problems.

What do you think they would say if i haggled them £300 cash for that laptop tomorrow ?

This isn't a consumer rights problem.

That said, management are a mess, theres no direction internally, and they are shutting shops (the staff are put on capability review and then the shop shuts). and you can usually expect quite a high discount.

Though I'd of said end of the week is best time to get a discount, as the managers will give 10 to 20% off laptops to ensure they hit weekly targets otherwise they get a hours dressing down after the shop closes on the weekend.

They would probably suggest that you look for a reconditioned one on their website.

I think if you go in asking for a 20% discount I think you will be realistically laughed out of the store - however I don't work for Comet so couldn't guarantee.

Best thing you can do is ask - but don't be offended if they refuse!

I would get the one for £335 after I have viewed the one in person in the shop

Try haggling in an extended warranty as well, see if they will drop the "core" price of the laptop a bit further to counter-act the warranty. Wait til the paperwork comes though then cancel the extended warranty for a full refund.

Depends how the salesmen is doing for his warranty sales target that week/month, might bend over backwards to get towards his target

    You'd think that wouldn't you.

But nope, I know people who worked for comet (until the store was put on capability review and everyone has their notices that it will be shut) and the deals they were doing just to shift stock.

I'm not sure what they were targeted on, I can only assume it was how many boxes can you shift and not £ notes.

5 to 10% throughout the week, 10 to 20% at the weekend. If you asked for it. Even their competitors would release memo's during the weekend that "We are aware of Comet's silly deals, please feed it back if you get any mention of it from customers"
