Paying for things on Ebay when there is no balance in Paypal. Help please.

Hi, I have done more buying than selling recently and DS1 is looking to buy something from Ebay.

I don't have enough money in the Paypal account to cover the cost of the item and it finishes tomorrow.

How can I pay for this please?

If there is not enough money in your PayPal account, then they will just take the remaining balance from the bank account you linked to when you signed up.

Or, if you have a credit or debit card registered with PayPal.
You can choose which one to use for the total, each time you check out.

Does it take a while for the money from the bank account to get to the seller?

    Is this an E cheque?

Not usually. I have done this and the sellers have always sent straight away.

I bought a £20 item like this last week and the seller sent straight away. If your details are up to date you should be fine.

    Sorry, one more question.

Will I get the choice of paying by card when I go through Paypal?
I have 2 cards registered, 1 credit card and 1 debit card. I also have a bank account registered.

Which is the best way to pay?

Personally, I prefer them to take the balance from my bank.

The e-cheque thing seems to be a mixture of out of date expiry dates on the card (compared to PayPal), or a registered address that doesn't quite match the card/bank details.

However, 9 times out of 10 it all goes fine.

Thank you so much for your time.
DS1 has to win the auction yet!

  • I always use my cc as it gives cashback (and some free interest before I settle.) No problems with prompt payments over last 5 years..
  • I think it will send an e-cheque if you haven't "confirmed" the bank account yet.
