It's perfectly normal for an EA to give the keys to a surveyor. If they want to accompany your survey then is it because you are using specialists/builders instead of a proper RICS surveyor? If it is a RICS surveyor, then I have absolutely no idea why they would want to charge for their time.

maybe thats it. maybe he has something to hide. I've got him to agree to a short visit so maybe we'll just drag that out.

I'd certainly call their bluff and tell them politely but firmly that you're not prepared to pay to have access for a survey that needs to be conducted.Errors of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it. - Jefferson0
