massive jump in premium - Direct Line renewal notice

Last year with Direct Line I paid £320, this year they want £510
Same car, should be full no claims discount but for some reason this renewal notice says 3 years no claims discount. Seems an odd mistake to make if it is a mistake. Can anyone explain this?

go on line and do a new quote with Direct line and then do some others for comparison.
If the DL online quote is cheaper ring them. I've found them very good and coming down a bit from their renewal price.

Have you been involved in any kind of accident or claim0

I had a similar issue a few years back, Paying £300, Renewal was almost £500.
Got quotes of just over £300 and DL matched it as i was a good customer and been with them for many years and no claims. But the following year they did it again and were not interested in lowering the quote.
I took my business elsewhere. I did a quote this year to see if they were cheap again but the quote came out at £1000. More than double my current renewal.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Evidently there is an issue with the NCD if your renewal says 3 years in which case you need to call them and find out what is happening0

I had a similar situation with Direct Line home insurance last year. i rang them up and pointed out that my circumstances had not changed and that I had made no claims in the previous year. I asked them to justify the increase and they promptly brought it down to almost exactly the previous year's figure.0 -
Don't just take the home insurance discount Direct Line offers you on the phone... you can do MUCH better than that online to the tune of hundreds of pounds!
I have been a Direct Line customer for over 10 years and was shocked last year when my renewal took my premiums towards £900.
I rang and asked for a discount as a loyal customer, pushed quite hard, and was able to save about £200 by cancelling my existing policy and then buying the identical policy as a new customer.
As I was giving my credit card details, I asked: "I suppose this is the same price I would get on your website, is it?" and the girl said "I expect so but we don't really know anything about our web prices".
I finished paying, but then felt uneasy so went and asked their website for a quote, clearing my cookies first so that the site saw me as a new customer.
I was shocked to find that I could save nearly another £300 on their website for the identical policy, with a premium of about £460, or just on £500 with their PLUS top-of-the-range policy with lots of extras.
I therefore used the cooling-off period to cancel the newly-bought-over-the-phone policy (they tried to impose an admin charge but backed off when challenged about their own duplicity) and bought the policy online.
I was very angry with them, but decided to stick with them because in the past their service has been exemplary when we had claims such as a leaky radiator wrecking a ceiling.
This year they are once again trying to impose a 50% increase to £720 for automatically renewing my policy but I am not going to fall for that one.
I log all the details of stuff like this in Outlook under a "Direct Line" contact so each year I can check how I avoided the greedy !!!!!!!s' clutches the previous year.

I find renewal time the quote is always higher, quick search, find it cheaper, call them (if automatic renewal) and matched price.0

It happens. Our current car insurance with them (which expires in a fortnight) cost £1,000. Doing a new business quote on their website would see this drop to £900. But the renewal came through at £1,250. So just under 40% more expensive than the NB quote.
We did a price comparison and went with Admiral for £700 instead.0
